JRF Sitio Jamaica stomps Team Nakada, claims back to back PHBL Championship Title

Playing in a single elimination, one day basketball tournament would leave every player fatigued and bruised at the end of the day. Some teams would never compete again because of the physical toll and the competitive nature of these kinds of tournaments. But for the battle tested JRF Sponsored Sitio Jamaica Bastketball Team, these kinds of moments are what champions are made of.

Looking to defend their championship from last year; and playing for bragging rights at the PHBL (Pinoy Hamakita Basketball League), The Sitio Jamaica JRF basketball team blew past their opponents and crushed Team Nakada at the finals, 95-65, last August 14,2023 at Hamamatsu City Hamakita Gymnasium.

Led by eventual MVP Darvim Papaya, the team cruised to the finals for an eventual face off against Team Nakada. The championship game started on equal ground with both teams being physical on the defensive end. Every shot was not an easy basket to make but Darvim Papaya commanded the offense and the team eventually created a lead that made it impossible to come back from.

Team History

The team started out as different groups of players playing against each other, and from then on played together to dominate their opponents. “Friends lang po kami sir,  bale magkaibang group of friends po at ako lng ang nakakakilala sa kanilang lahat tapos po tinry ko pagsamahin sila sa isang team at nagtry po sumali sa one day league,” said Keiichi Obana, team representative for the Sitio Jamaica JRF Team.

Obana reiterated that despite barely playing together, the team played like they have been together for years.” Nag click ang chemistry at nagchampion po sa first try at doon na po nagtuloy tuloy,’ said Obana referring to their first championship last year. From then on, the team went on to win numerous championships.

Undeterred by their busy schedule , the team was determined to defend their championship this year. Obana said ,”We practice once or twice a month ng magkakasama and every weekends na walang team practice naghahanap kami ng papawis at makikilaro.”

Other players also maintained their strength and conditioning at a high level before the tournament. “Yung ibang players during weekdays after work nagweweights nag training ng physical condition or nagshoshooting sa open courts,” said Obana.
